Some measure their lives by days and years, others by heart throbs, passion and tears; But the surest measure under the Sun, is what in your lifetime for others you have done." - Ruth Smeltzer

Nepal, landlocked between China and India, is among the poorest and least developed countries in the world with 40% of its population living below the poverty line. Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy and industrial activity mainly involves the processing of agricultural produce including jute, sugarcane, tobacco, and grain. Nepal has considerable scope for exploiting its potential in hydropower but it has yet to convert its potential into actuality. Tourism, another potential area Nepal can benefit from, has decreased considerably since the last ten years due to ongoing political disturbances.

Due to the difficult and remote geographical location, technological backwardness, political instability, and, above all, high rate of illiteracy, Nepal's common people have been suffering inhumanely since several decades. Majority of the children grow up without attending a single school in their life. For them, school is as distant as moon to us. The school-age children are too busy either assisting their parents accrue the income or looking after their siblings so that their parents can work overtime. Most parents are obliged, due to their destitute and miserable condition, to stop their children from attending any school, as it would curtail the income making their life even harder and impossible. They are exploited in all aspects of life, i.e. physically, economically, socially, and politically. They are so feeble, vulnerable and morally degraded that they cannot rise and confront day-to-day affairs without a helping hand. Everyday, even at this moment, people's hopes, dreams and their will to survive are being crushed unable to rise for ever and a day.

We, NepalAama family, believe that the most highly developed human conduct is that which makes living richer for those among whom we live and those who will come after us. Education, the true source of virtue and happiness, is the greatest gift we can offer to our future generation. Only knowledge can defeat the poverty and lift the life higher to more meaningful and blissful one.

Having seen and heard the desperate and languid faces and their bitter cries, we could not stop ourselves from taking an action. As a result, NepalAama, a non-profit organization, was formed and registered in California, USA, in 2004. NepalAama's primary objective is to provide education to needy and underprivileged, otherwise wasted, children. Each child is our heritage, future, and hope and NepalAama is determined to train them in order to serve the mankind better. NepalAama also aim to help poor and disadvantaged people of Nepal through various charitable activities.

This journey is not of a single person or a society but of the whole mankind.
